In a Rush? List of 3 Best Handheld Vacuum for Pet Hair
Things to consider before buying a handheld vacuum for pet hair
With or without a cord?
In most cases having a cordless unit is the best. You can take it to any part of your house without the need to worry or find a plug socket. But when you don’t have a cord you have a battery that needs to be charged up regularly and might have less power than a unit that plugs directly into a power outlet.
Most units average between 20-25 minutes on a single charge, so this means you will probably have to charge them up regularly. This isn’t much of a hassle as most units sit in a rechargeable dock when they are not being used.
A corded handheld vacuum for pet hair can be a bit more restrictive but can give you that extra power needed to pick up pet hair from all surfaces. You need to weigh up what you would like more, maneuverability or power?
As mentioned before, pet hair can be very stubborn, especially when it is attached to differing fabrics. Having a handheld vacuum that can suck up hair quickly and efficiently can save you lots of time and effort. The more power you have, the better it is sucking up pet hair on a regular basis. The less time and effort you need to put into vacuuming means that you will want to do it more regularly.
Most varieties of handhelds are powerful enough for light use, but with pet hair you need that extra boost of power sometimes to get over the line. The batteries on some units can be pretty weak and as the battery runs out of charge it can get even weaker. So it is very important to find a handheld vacuum with decent suction for pet hair.
Also when thinking about power you will need to take into consideration the noise of the unit. The more power the unit gives there is usually a correlation between the amount of noise given out also. It is always best to try out a handheld vacuum before, to hear if noise is going to be a problem for you.
This is where handheld units can come undone. They are portable for a reason, they need to be carried around and not weigh too much. So a lot of the times the storage capacity for hair/dirt can be limited, leading to emptying the unit frequently which can be a drag. So, finding the right balance of being lightweight but with a decent sized container for dirt can be tricky.
We have found that we are emptying our containers after every use anyway, so the capacity is important, but not a deal closer by any means. The more hair they can hold the better, but most units are easy to open and dispose of the contents, so it doesn’t become a problem.
There is no point buying a handheld unit that you find troublesome moving around and getting into those tight spots. It is key to get a unit that is comfortable to hold and move around so that vacuuming is made as effortless as possible. It is also important to be able to get in and around tight spots, so having a bulky unit can just get in the way.
Most handheld vacuuming units have a similar design and structure, but little variations in design or balance can make a world of difference. A little design change can mean less strain on your wrists and can make it easier to get into tighter, more difficult to reach places.
Also as we mentioned above, if maneuverability is top of your list in specifications, then you would want to stay away from any vacuuming units that have a cord attached.
Getting down to it: Just Tell me which Handheld Vacuum Cleaner I Should Buy for Pet Hair?!
Some people don’t like to sit through long-winded explanations on how something works. They just want to know which one to buy. For those of you like this, below you will find a quick list of the units we recommend. As mentioned any of these units will satisfy the animal lovers out there, so happy Vacuuming!
The Bissel pet hair eraser does many things right (including the name). The actual coloring of this handheld vacuum leaves a lot to be desired. But, in terms of shape, It is a well-designed unit and is easy to use.
It has a decent sized capacity to keep all of the pet hair in one place before you have to empty it. We found it took a good few goes before we had to empty it, so that is a big plus point.
The special motorized brush tool is a great feature that managed to do a great job in disrupting the pet hair on fabric, we found it to be a solid handheld vacuum for pet hair.
The power of the unit is decent if not exceptional. But it does the job of getting all of the hair eventually. In that respect, we didn’t find it to be that much of a problem. The triple level filtration system gives the unit a good level of suction and the noise of the unit is at a good level as to not wake people up if vacuuming at night. The lack of extreme power is compensated by the motorized brush as you don’t need to suck the hair straight from the fabric, the brush takes it off the fabric ready to be sucked up.
The battery is one of the downsides as it doesn’t last as long as advertised. But, when you are talking about handheld vacuuming units the difference is a matter of minutes and you will be charging it after every use anyway.
All in all, the Bissel is a very capable all-round handheld vacuum that many people will feel more than adequately meets their needs. It does everything well but doesn’t really excel in many areas.
Now, this little handheld vacuum has a very distinct look due to the fact it has one purpose and one purpose only, to remove your pet hair. It tackled everything we threw at it. Mainly because of the specially designed rubber nozzle on the front of the handheld vacuum. This nozzle removes stubborn hair off of any surface quickly and easily. Now we have used it, we are surprised other handheld vacuums for pet hair don’t use a system like this.
One of it’s down sides is also one of the positives, it has a cord. The plus point is that it is very powerful. In fact, you don’t have to worry about the battery dying on you. It makes the job pretty quick and easy, which are two of the essentials you want when dealing with pet hair. But, there is no getting around it, having a cord trailing along is cumbersome, gets in the way and can be annoying.
A small downside we noticed is with the noise. With the extra power comes a bit more noise when vacuuming. It isn’t deafening, but it is noticeable especially when vacuuming in the evening.
Although we love the rubber nozzle and its practical uses, the design of the handheld vacuum is one only a mother could love. It has been designed for the sole purpose of removing pet hair and we admire it for that.
The Homasy is a good looking machine. It is sleek and the black & white coloring makes it look like a handheld vacuum that can fulfill your pet hair sucking needs. In all respects it does do a fine job at picking up pet hair. It has a good strong suction that makes short work of sucking up debris on a daily basis.
It also has a good capacity for storing all of that pet hair so that you don’t need to keep emptying it as you go along. When you do need to empty it, it is very easy to do and reassemble and get going again. It is a lightweight handheld vacuum that is easy to maneuver around and get into all of the places that pet hair finds itself going into.
The capacity of the handheld vacuum is usually something a bit lower down the list when thinking of things. But having a unit that has a decent capacity is a great luxury to have.
One of the negatives we found is that of battery life. Although it advertises a great battery life, we found it came up a bit short in this respect. But we also don’t think that it is a big deal when thinking about these type of vacuum cleaners and what you need from them. Most of the time you will be vacuuming for about 10 minutes here and there. When not in use, you will put it back to charge. So it will be very rare that you will ever run out of steam when using it.
It is a quiet vacuum which is a plus point. Usually, there is no real difference between the handheld vacuuming units. They are obviously much quieter than normal vacuums, but the Homasy stood out in this regard.
Another negative is that it could come with a better variety of tools to help you tackle different areas and get into tight spaces. But again it isn’t a major let down as it does a great job of picking up pet hair in many different circumstances.
The Shark is a contender for the best handheld vacuum for pet hair. It has a unique design, with a ‘nose’ a bit like a hammerhead shark. This ‘nose’ seems to act really well with the motorized brush to dislodge pet hair and suck it up with ease.
The suction on this vacuuming unit is great. It made light work of a lot of tough tests we threw at it, including getting matted dog hair out of an old carpet. It seems to be good due to the lithium-ion battery combined with the unique shaped ‘nose’ and the motorized brush. All of these specs combined make for a formidable handheld vacuum against pet hair.
The noise level is pretty standard on the Shark, it could be a bit quieter and I think the motorized brush gives it a bit more volume. But, it really is nothing to worry about, the extra suction more than makes up for the sound.
The only faults we could really label it with are the container to hold the hair/dirt is a bit on the small side. It would have been nice to get a bit more vacuuming done before we had to empty it. But, if you are using it in small bursts? then there is no reason why you can’t empty it quickly after every use.
We are not great fans of the green buttons or the look of the ‘nose’. But, these are all just cosmetic things. They really have no bearing on how useful it is as a vacuuming unit. It is a very good handheld vacuum and will do a great job picking up that pet hair.
Our second Shark is not too far away from the other. Although similar, it has to be considered in its own right as a great handheld vacuum for pet hair. There are not many downsides to the Shark Pet-Perfect apart from the look of it. It seems to go with a similar ‘nose’ to that of the previous Shark, but it just looks weird and disjointed to us. We also don’t see the need for it to be designed this way? It serves no real function and looks bad.
But, it is a very powerful handheld vacuum. It does an easy job of getting embedded hair out of different fabrics and materials. The motorized brush helps with separating the hair from the fabric and the suction does a great job of sucking everything up quickly and efficiently.
Noise levels are pretty much the same as the previous shark unit above. Noticeable, but not really a problem, especially in the short bursts you will probably be using it in.
The handheld vacuum is lightweight, quiet, easy to maneuver and store away. These are all big plus points in regard to pet hair. All in all, it is a great unit for picking up pet hair, especially if you are not concerned about the design.
The Cofuture seems to be one of the best all-rounders when thinking about a portable handheld vacuum for pet hair. The design is great, it is sleek and understated, with a narrowing nose to get into those tight places. When it comes to design, it is our favorite vacuuming unit .
It is a powerful handheld vacuum as well and stands up to any of the other units we mention in this article. It does get a slight markdown due to it not having a motorized brush. The brush would have helped dislodge any stubborn clumps of hair we came across. But the power of the unit meant we didn’t need the brush in most cases.
Sometimes with the more powerful units you can get a lot of noise, but the noise coming from the Cofuture is pretty standard and didn’t take away from the experience of using it.
It is lightweight and maneuverable and is actually our favorite handheld vacuum to hold and use. It is weighted very well and as mentioned is designed so well to get to a lot of awkward places. We felt less strain on our wrists when using it and it just felt natural to use.
Another feature that the others on the list don’t seem to have (Or at least do not promote) is that it can tackle wet spillages as well as dry. This gives the vacuuming unit an extra dimension and makes it a great vacuum for all occasions.
The capacity for storing hair & dirt is a bit on the small side, but we can forgive it for being such a great overall vacuuming unit.
We are confident that you can take any one of these units home with you and they will do everything you ask of them. If you want to suck up troublesome pet hair then they will all do that job. It is of course not only pet hair that they suck up. All handheld vacuums can be used for a multitude of vacuuming jobs including for inside your car.
If you asked us which vacuum we would choose out of all of them? In fact, we are slightly more in favor of the Cofuture just because it does everything so well and looks very nice. We also like the fact it has the extra of picking up spillages, it isn’t necessary, but it is welcome.
By all means, make your own mind up about which handheld vacuum will best suit your pet hair needs. However, since they are all so similar in performance, you may be making your final decision based on looks alone. Some units are better than others in one area and other units are better in another area. Yet, these differences are so small, that it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.
At last, we hope that you find our review helpful. And we wish you to find the best handheld vacuum that helps you battle that problem of pet hair around your home.
